Urban Ridge Stage Two has been planned as a community by Will Tatton Architecture.   

"Design inspiration for Urban Ridge came from seeing an opportunity to create a totally new way of designing for Tauranga" says Will Tatton. "I could see how we could get a better sense of variety by designing a whole streetscape. Each house gives a nod to it’s neighbours design in a very respectful way which isn’t normally possible."

 "Usually houses are designed without knowing what might happen next door. Here we were designing all the houses so we had an opportunity to design the neighbouring houses to relate positively to each other and also to really make something of the ‘outdoor rooms’ between.

We emphasised values of both privacy and openness to make the place feel bigger. For example no windows in one house in say one garage wall and then in the living room of the house next door extra large glass areas were designed. A fence between may not even be required.

As a result we have better indoor and outdoor spaces and more pleasing houses here than we often see on much larger sites."  Will Tatton
