Country Home

The home was designed upon a central axis to Mount Maunganui. This landmark is picture framed throughout the house. The central pavilion with high raking ceilings was to ‘reach out’ to the view. This was achieved by the large cantilevering roof structure. The interior Tongue & Groove ceiling linings were carried through to extenuate this cantilever.

The two adjoining wings containing separate living spaces, covered outdoor area with wood fireplace, Master bedroom, Guest rooms and Media room follow a simple gable roof structure equally proportioned to create a symmetry along the ridgeline.

With a natural palette from the interior to exterior, this has the feel of ‘home’ with warmth, functionality and independent yet flexible multi-use spaces.

Tauranga Home

Upon entering the home vast rural views are captured through a large light filled glass void, this flows through to the reflection pool and linking Louvretec roof.

The Kitchen, Dining and Living areas extend seamlessly out to large timber decks, covered outdoor area and pool. The Piano room creates an intimate space for cosy evenings.

The Master suite and guest bedrooms are situated on the upper level. Each with its own ensuite and dressing room. The linking bridge overlooking the void and reflection pool

creates separation and privacy.

Cedar, stone cladding, large cantilevers and lay of the existing ground the house was designed to be somewhat organic in form and use the adjacent slopes to assist in the

architecture and functionality of the home. A bridge from the upper floor links the house to the land where a private spa deck overlooks the Wairoa River and rural countryside below.

House on the hill  2017 ADNZ winner

A long meandering gravel driveway through forestry sprawls out to open grassed paddocks where stock grazes. Nestled on the horizon line this country farmhouse sits proudly with expansive views over Tauranga Harbour.

The Home has been designed to connect the primary living spaces to the view, decks and pool area. Depending on weather conditions, the central courtyard also acts as a refuge with harbour views through the glazed living pavilion or rural views out to the Southern countryside.

This home won the Resene Colour in Design Award and Commended in the Residential New Home over 300sqm at the 2017 ADNZ Awards .

Simply Timeless

This home is a stunning collaboration between the architectural designer (Jon McAlpine) and the client who had a very clear and consistent vision.  The result is a stunning home that is restful, stylish as well as incredibly practical.   The home consists of a large open plan main living, dining and kitchen, featuring stunning exposed trusses and a customised concrete fireplace that was poured in-situ.    In addition there is what is referred to as the 'den'.  The differing ceiling height gives this room a more 'snug' feeling.    Maximising space, within the upstairs roof area is a childs playroom and a bedroom allowing guests their own space.

Contemporary Beach home

Simple clean lines give this Mount Maunganui beach house a strong architectural stance. Cedar wraps around the upper floor and sofits to create a strong textured contrast against plaster. Aluminium louvers and frames create interest and detail whilst controlling the sun during the day.  With four bedrooms, study, two living areas and ample storage this beach house maximises the site but also provides generous outdoor spaces to create ever important flow between interior and exterior.

What makes an architectural home?

It is the little details, the understanding of how in the practical sense, plans on paper relate to the practicality on site.  It is working with a broader team to mitigate potential problems, as well as ensuring materials and labour are maximized and minimizing wastage on site.

It is having a though understanding of construction costs from the start of the project. It is ensuring there is a seamless connection between spaces based on how clients live in a space.  It is the integration of design features that seamlessly blend form with function.     However it is also listening, ensuring the home is what the client wants, because although you want to inspire clients you still have to have ability to be completely flexible.  This means having the ability to design any style of home without pushing a your own particular ‘style’ on the client.

A modern contemporary home with clean lines, yet softened with the use of natural materials. It is this palette of natural materials that required exceptional attention to detail. It is often buildings that give the illusion of simplicity that requires exceptional craftsmanship during the construction process.

What is the difference in building homes with architectural detail?

Homes with exceptional architectural detail (large or small) involves a different way of working.  They require additional planning with both the architectural designer and often those with particular specialist skills.   The smallest details will be thoroughly planned out to mitigate problems arising on site during the project, this will include materials that may have long lead times or have to sourced abroad to achieve the exact standard and effect the homeowner is wanting to achieve.

Regardless of the complexity our Project Managers, builders and sub-contractors are some of the best in the industry, all adhering to our rigorous quality control processes which ensures that all finishes are well above industry standard.    To further your peace of mind every home comes not only with a 10year Master Build Guarantee.
