What experience do you have in construction and development that makes Thorne Group unique?
Thorne Group brings together a rare blend of hands-on building expertise, large-scale development knowledge, and financial governance.
Our Construction Director, Gavin Morrow, has more than 30 years of experience building architecturally complex homes both in New Zealand and overseas. Peter Buck brings sound commercial insight, having worked with one of the world’s largest investment entities—ensuring our clients benefit from robust governance, financial transparency and smart budget management. Aaron Thorne’s background in land development ensures we approach every project with a big-picture view—understanding not just how to build, but how to unlock long-term value.
On the frontline our Project Managers are highly skilled and qualified former builders themselves. They have their finger on the pulse of what’s happening on site, and they know how to keep things moving with care, precision, and attention to detail.
Together, this mix of experience means we’re not just flying by the seat of our pants. We’ve done the work, built the systems, and earned the trust to deliver homes that are both exceptionally crafted and smartly managed.

How we can save you money?
We’ve built homes, we’ve developed land and we’ve spent decades quietly refining the kind of systems that make builds more cost-effective—creating efficiencies on site without compromise.
Where we add value starts early on—before construction even begins. Our expertise lies in working alongside your architectural designer to ensure design details are delivered in the most practical, cost-efficient way. When architects collaborate with us on the details you don’t see, it ensures materials and labour are used and allocated as efficiently as possible.
Think of it as our secret sauce - the unseen advantage of working with us. We know what to look for before the build even begins.
Keeping the wheels turning once construction is underway depends on having robust and efficient systems in place for planning, communication and budget management. After almost two-decades in business we’ve developed systems and implemented processes that others are still figuring out.
We’ve also cultivated strong supplier and trade relationships, which means better volume-based pricing and buying power – savings that we pass to you.
All of this adds up to time and money saved—and a smoother experience for you.

Are Thorne Group more expensive?
At first glance? Sometimes, yes. But on diving into the detail? More often not.
We don’t price to win the job—we price to deliver it properly, to a standard we would expect in our own homes.
We’ve had clients come back to us after opting for a cheaper quote, only to learn (the hard way) that the final cost ended up being higher than our quoted price. Sadly, once all the tagged-out or omitted items were added back in, it wasn’t quite the great deal they thought it would be.
We strive for honest pricing - that means fewer surprises, fewer variations, and a smoother, more predictable build.
We encourage you to talk to previous clients—ours and others. Ask how their final cost compared to the original quote. That’s often where the real story is.

What’s one of the most common regrets people have when building?
Not locking in their full team from the outset - the architect, builder and interior designer—early in the process.
When the builder is only brought in once plans are consented, some of the best opportunities to improve efficiency are already gone. We can add value, drawing on our years of experience in working alongside your architectural designer on the what’s happening behind the walls. Details that you will hardly be aware of and will likely never see but can save you time and money.

(Built 3 times with TG)
We had a very good experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better build. We had so much trust in them, we were confident they weren’t fleecing us”
Ken & Gaye
Their reputation is very good, if we mention we have a Thorne Group house, people say ‘good choice’. I believe it adds value to our home and will to the sale price if/when we sell.
Kurt
Everyone onsite has an obvious respect for this company and want to do an excellent job to continue with that relationship.
Nic & Steve
I am proud to say that Thorne Group has done 3 builds for me! I had the privilege of top-class service, from start to finish nothing was ever a problem. I would not build with anyone else Thorne Group all the way
Vicky
We are delighted with the high-quality standard of finish in the house. Other builders, friends and family, regularly comment on it. We still get people knocking on our door wanting to know who built our house.
