Quality and Craftsmanship: Evident in every detail
At Thorne Group quality isn’t just something we pay lip service to. It’s embedded in our culture and evident in every conversation and detail, starting from the first encounter through to the completed home, and beyond.
Quality is a key reason why clients return to us to build a second, and even third time.

Experience where it counts
Decades of experience goes into every Thorne Group project. Our team has a breadth and depth of knowledge that can’t be taught overnight — it’s earned, through decades of delivering homes where every line, every finish, every join matters.
Led by Construction Director - Gavin Morrow, each project is assigned a dedicated Project Manager – a qualified builder responsible for managing and delivering your project on time and to plan.
Then there’s our onsite teams – each overseen day-to-day by a foreman with minimum 20 years of hands-on experience and supported by skilled builders — the kind of builders who take pride in their work knowing that getting the smallest of details right isn’t optional — it’s the norm.
Because our teams are small, tight-knit, and work on each project from start to completion, they maintain a high degree of accountability and responsibility.
Every person on site cares — about the outcome, about the craftsmanship, and about delivering the vision the architect and client set out to achieve.
True Craftsmanship
Every person on the team brings their own unique skills to each project. An example of this is Thorne Group Senior Foreman, Craig - a craftsman in the truest sense.
Craig’s career began in bespoke furniture-making for the Fortnum & Mason family in London, where the standard wasn’t simply "good enough" — it was flawless.
Craig brings that same precision, patience, and pride into every home we build. You see it in the way bespoke features — like timber panelling, crafted staircases, or one-of-a-kind elements — are executed perfectly the first time.
It’s craftsmanship that’s fundamentally built in — not an add on.
And it’s that same level of craftmanship that is seen across our entire construction team and is consistently recognised. Every home we've entered into the Master Builders House of the Year Awards over the years has been recognised and awarded.
A reflection of the care, detail, and pride that goes into every Thorne Group project.

Sourcing the unique – creating the extraordinary
For clients building architectural homes, details matter — not just in design, but in the way they're delivered.
We collaborate with specialist artisans across New Zealand — stonemasons, blacksmiths, artists and bespoke joiners — to deliver unique and creative design details.
We’ve engaged traditional Māori carvers and weavers to integrate a whānau’s whakapapa into tukutuku panels and staircase design. We’ve sourced French fireplace surrounds from the 1800s from Europe. And we’ve worked alongside iron specialists to craft ornate custom balustrades and railings.
Because often, it’s the elements you can’t buy off a shelf that make a home truly extraordinary.
And bringing those elements together seamlessly is a skill in itself.
Setting new standards in craftsmanship
When you’re building a home designed to stand out — a home where the architecture, materials, and detailing all matter — you need more than just a good builder.
You need a team who recognises what you’re trying to achieve, understands how the details need to be executed, and has the quiet skill to deliver it — day after day, stage after stage.
At Thorne Group, that's the standard we hold ourselves to.
Not because it's easy — but because it's the only way we know how to build.
