THORNE GROUP: BUILDING ARCHITECTURAL HOMES SINCE 2007

Dreaming of that forever home? What would you include in your dream home?

Dream Home

Dreaming of that forever home? What would you include in your dream home?

These homes are for clients who are ready to build the home they have been dreaming about in their head for a long time … their forever home. To be honest, with these homes, the list of ‘must haves’ is too extensive to list however, we thought we would share a few of the popular features shared by the many ‘dream homes’ that we have built over the years.

  • Four+ Bedrooms, whilst there are some exceptions to this (dependant on life stage), an average of five bedrooms is the most common. These rooms are often multipurpose depending on the footprint of the home and requirements, such as a play or rumpus room, yoga space, art studio or craft room.

  • Gym or workout area. This can be a bespoke space, specifically designed for bulky gym equipment or a spare room that has the dual purpose of being a dance or yoga space.

  • Media room: This can be as intimate as a snug, right through to a cinema style space (even complete with library and cinema seating). Perfect for a Netflix movie night in.

  • Separate lounge: This request is not unique to ‘dream homes’ however, some grander designs will often include interesting features such as a vaulted ceiling and feature fireplace and are often paired with unique materials.

  • Studio: Following the 2020 lockdown, there was a noticeable increase in clients wanting a separate studio or self-contained living with a coffee station or kitchenette. This could be used for adult kids returning home or visiting for an extended period, or for an elderly parent to reside.

  • Wine cellar: This is an affordable luxury - temperature controlled with multiple compartments to ensure the optimal temperature depending on your preferred wine variety.

  • Outdoor kitchen / BBQ: Having a built-in functional kitchen within the outdoor living area enables food to be prepped and kept cool without the need to constantly go back and forth to the main kitchen while BBQing.

  • Pool House: As a standalone pool house is a separate structure, it does require more land and is often only achievable for those with large sites outside of the town centres.

  • Bar: A must have for clients who enjoy entertaining. Some built-in bars even incorporate a working beer tap!

  • Billiards Room (or games room): We have worked with clients passionate about pool / billiards for whom the set out needs to be exactly right. The room dimensions should allow adequate space to shoot from each angle as well having the perfect lighting.

  • Sauna / and or steam room: For those wanting to achieve a ‘spa-like’ experience within their own homes a sauna is a surprisingly affordable touch of luxury.

  • Outdoor landscaping: Planning for outdoor rooms is equally important as designing indoor spaces. Making allowances for a heated pool, spa, sunken fire pits - the sky is the limit really however, it is critical these spaces are not simply an ‘add on’ but instead integrated with the flow and design from the interiors.

  • Scullery: Often referred to traditionally as a ‘butler’s pantry’. Most modern homes will typically include a walk-in pantry, however a scullery will likely incorporate a sink, additional dishwasher and potentially a second / wine fridge.

  • Extra storage for ‘toys’: Garages are seldom just for cars but rather for housing a selection of ‘toys’ ranging from bikes, skateboards, skis, surfboards, paddleboards right through to boats and jets skis.

  • Laundry or mud room: Although a utility space, adding some clever built-in storage and seating is definitely on the list!

“Our introduction to Thorne Group came through watching our friends build their lovely new home with this company. Their whole experience went so well we decided to brave it and here we are today living in our beautiful home and very happy to recommend them to anyone looking to build. We have to thank Jon McAlpine our Architect, Gavin Morrow our project manager and Craig and his team of builders whom all showed such professionalism, dedication and pride in their work, ensuring a well-managed, transparent process for us. Access to buildertrend enabled us to see daily progress through photos and written updates, even while travelling overseas. We have been living in our new home for 6 months now, and loving it, when you have a great team supporting you, you get great results.” | John & Dianne
